Attractions are one of the biggest money eaters while traveling. Heck, we paid $60 just to get into the zoo the other day WITH military discount and a few free kids! That adds up REAL quick! Since being on the road, I have learned several ways to save some money and still see the things we want to!
The first way to save I found I really liked was City Pass. They have major cities Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Southern California, Tampa Bay and Toronto. Plus they are adding more all the time.
City Pass works every simple; you buy a book that gives you tickets to 4 or 5 attractions at over 40% discount. You need 1 pass per person, and kids passes are cheaper than adult passes. We were looking at the Atlanta pass. The adult book is $73 per person for 5 attractions that would normally cost $129 per person. You get tickets for the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, Inside CNN Studio Tour, and then you get to pick, Zoo Atlanta OR Center for Civil and Human Rights. Then Pick again, Fernbank Museum of Natural History OR College Football Hall of Fame.
City Pass is bought online; they can be mailed to you, or you can have them emailed to you and print them out. You can skip the ticket lines and save time. They are good for 9 consecutive days, so once you use one ticket, you have 9 days use them all.
Next, if you know ahead of time where you are going, you can buy an Entertainment Book. This will have coupons for attractions and restaurants and even shops. As a bonus, they have coupons for major retailers too, like Old Navy etc.You get access to online coupons as well as the traditional book with coupons.
If you have Verizon Wireless, they offer a reward point program online. You can use those points to get discount coupons as well from Entertainment Book. We have gotten buy one get one free admission and $10 off our food bill of $50 or more at restaurants.
Get a Zoo Membership. Not only will you get into your local zoo free but while you travel you can visit the zoo for free or nearly free. Our membership also includes aquariums AND science centers and it only cost $65 for the year for a family of 6!
You can also ‘Rob Peter to pay Paul’ in one aspect. Save money on one area of your budget and push that money over to travel and entertainment. What do I mean exactly? Well, I use my Free Amazon Gift Cards (there are 45 places! See how here) and get many of my groceries, diapers, household items, and gifts on Amazon and then use that money and push it into your attractions category. An example, My grocery budget is $400 a month. I can save by buying $200 of it with Free Amazon Gift Cards then I take the $200 I saved and moved it to the Attractions category. I earn on average $210 a month many times, even more, see how here.
